The best time to visit Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is between March and October, when the climate is relatively mild. By this time, it is easy to trek to the shrine. Spring, March to May and autumn, September to October are moderate and the kaleidoscope of Katra as well as the neighbouring hills does add a divine beauty to the experience.
The monsoon months are in July to August. It would have all the greenery surrounding it; however, climatic conditions are not too good sometimes, and this may make the trek a little tough. Winter is a good season for those who like cold climate from November to February. However, heavy snowfall in some areas can restrict movement.
Delhi to Mata Vaishno Devi distance is approximately 630 kilometers, which can be covered by train, bus, or private vehicle. The journey by road takes around 10-12 hours. Many devotees prefer to book train tickets to Katra, the base station for the yatra, which has good connectivity from Delhi. Once in Katra, pilgrims start the 12-13 km trek to the temple, which can also be done using battery-operated vehicles, ponies, or helicopters, making the yatra accessible to all ages and fitness levels.
