Janmasthami Celebration in Mathura

In North India's Braj region, the festival has a unique charm. Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, attracts visitors from around the globe who come to witness and participate in various events. On this auspicious day, in temples, the idol of Lord Krishna is often bathed in milk, curd, honey, ghee, and other offerings. This sacred process, known as Abhishekam, is a key ritual. Various other rituals are also observed. One such tradition is Jhulanotsav, where devotees swing the idol of Krishna on a beautifully decorated cradle. This symbolizes the joy of Krishna’s birth and the nurturing care he received from his foster parents.
