7 Points That Contractors Must Remember When Using a Gondola

Posted By Alan Wood     June 27, 2022

Body

Also called the cradle, or the suspension platform, a gondola is a lifting device that lets the workers work at height safely and comfortably without any stress or fear. All thanks to this advanced equipment, construction workers can have smooth and convenient access to their work areas and can reach any height of a building or a structure as it has no height limitations. A gondola can carry many people and has enough space on it to move and work. As the gondolas these days come with certain safety devices attached to them, the occupants are protected from sudden falls.

Based on the kind of work or project, you can choose between the different types:

1. Permanent gondola

2. Temporary gondola

3. Self-propelled and mobile gondola

What the contractors should keep in mind

Accidents due to unsafe operation of gondolas or insufficient knowledge can be prevented for sure. All contractors should take note of these points given below:

1. Clearly state the maximum number of workers a gondola can carry.

2. Never let the workers use the gondola in any dangerous weather conditions such as during thunderstorms and strong winds.

3. Check the wire ropes of the gondola to make sure that it is in good working condition. Make sure that the ropes have no signs of corrosion or are not broken.

4. To ensure the health and safety of all the working personnel involved with it, give sufficient instruction, information, supervision, and training.

5. Give each worker an independent lifeline secured to a proper place, fall fittings and arrestor, and a full-body harness.

6. Ensure to maintain the gondolas properly and keep a detailed record of them. Testing, examination, and daily inspection must be looked after by a competent and efficient examiner who is well aware of gondolas. Proper and valid certificates should be received from the examiner for display and retention.

7. Last but not least, see to it that the gondolas speak high on quality mechanical construction.
