CFSS Vs PCA

Posted By John den     October 15, 2022

Body

CFSS and PCA are very similar when it comes to eligibility requirements. Both programs cover the same major services, such as health-related tasks and behavior observation. The difference lies in the services that are provided. People who have used PCA before will have more options under CFSS. A spouse or parent of a minor can serve as a support worker for the participant, and he or she can also buy goods that can aid in independence.

CFSS

When comparing the two types of community support, CFSS and PCA have some similarities and some differences. Both programs provide personal assistance for people with disabilities and the two programs use different models for delivering these services. CFSS utilizes an agency model while PCA uses a budget model. In both models, the person receiving the services is the employer, a spouse or parent may serve as an agent, and a financial management services provider is hired and trained to provide the assistance.

Both programs use a time sheet for each service. CFSS participants' employers and FMS providers are responsible for keeping a record of their time sheets. The CFSS service delivery plan must be reviewed annually or whenever a significant change occurs in the participant. Likewise, CFSS participants are required to have a time sheet signed by the legal representative to ensure continuity of care. CFSS participants must have a legal representative authorized to make decisions on their behalf.

PCA

CFSS and PCA are two forms of care giving that can be a bit similar, but the difference between them lies in the level of responsibility they carry. PCAs are responsible for the daily care of clients. This may include making their bed, getting dressed, and cooking for them. This job also requires a high degree of patience, since this is a very personal and private career. Nonetheless, both types of care giving require a certain level of self-care.

In terms of service delivery, CFSS will offer two types of services: budget-based and agency-provided. Both of these models have their pros and cons, and the decision to opt for either one will depend on a number of factors. PCA agencies will handle the hiring, training, and supervision of caregivers. This model allows caregivers to remain with their patients. PCA agencies provide a high level of support, which allows participants to remain in their homes.
