Overview
Were they say they are removing'race' for next entries because iT wAs rAcIsT? I don't understand about D&D but I have always been a fan of Warhammer Fantasy RPG and I swear to god in the Animal Crossing Items last rulebook they say'species' instead of'races' like in last edition, wtf is wrong with everything. They removed racial bonuses in the latest rule book. You select your own today so that you may be a strong elf or an intelligent orc.
They didn't even remove racial bonusesthey gave you the choice to change them if you would like.
The matter is, people could have been doing this anyway, but now it's in the rules for 5e. Like, among the greatest items in DnD is homebrew and tweaking the rules as you see fit. If people do not want evil orcs, they can just not have evil orcs in their campaign, it is so simple.I listen to Not Another D&D Podcast and their campaign exists in a world where interbreeding has been a thing for millenia, so that there are no"races". Every being is a great number of different racial aspects.
For player characters it let the players select one racial"class" while having their personality look however the desire, and all beings are very"human-monster hybrid".
Eg. Emily's PC, Fia, is described as being violet skinned and fanged, marginally"orcish" in her face however long and gangly elven physique. She uses the racial stats of Vedalken. It is a mishmash of different descriptions which works great having a"look how you want, but apply a race's attributes".
It is also an optional rule. Personally, I think it is a bit OP since you can chose a feat on every race (a feat is essentially like a gift and some are extremely strong), but in the end it is to create your character more flexible when you wish to play an Orc Wizard f.e. and don't have much use for your bonus strength. It's more fun because you can play some other race as any course but it makes races only another bit of fluff information that you tell your party once and they then overlook the whole game their wizard is a half-orc.
Plus the whole thing started because a bunch of people were whining about orcs being racist because they are D&D depiction of black individuals apparently, even though individuals are a separate race...
I mean if your in a group at which the half orc is ignored today, than it was probably going to be discounted before. It's up to the participant to detirmine what they want from the racial option, along with animal crossing items new horizons the dm to apply those conclusions on.The first time that I saw that I legit did not get it. . .its since the character is a color darker? Don't these folks have real problems to worry about?
