  一把牙刷到底能用多長時間，這既要看牙刷毛的品質如何，還要看使用者怎樣使用和保護牙刷。一般來說，目前市場上銷售的國產牙刷，使用 1-2個月，或2-3個月，牙刷毛就彎曲了。
  建議牙刷的使用期限不要超過3個月，但也因人而異，例如有的人刷牙時使用的力氣比較大，不到3個月，牙刷的刷毛就彎曲、變形。如果出現這種情況，便要及時更換，因為刷毛彎曲、變形的牙刷的清潔作用明顯降低，同時還容易對牙齒、牙齦等造成傷害。
  有一種類型的牙刷，其刷頭中的部分刷毛塗有特殊的顏色 ，隨著牙刷的逐漸使用，顏色從刷毛末端開始消退，此為提醒更換牙刷的指示，根據設計的要求，顏色消退到一定的程度便說明牙刷需要更換。
  一些特殊情況下，也需要考慮及時更換牙刷，如感冒痊癒後，在感冒期間，牙刷上會因為刷牙後存留有許多與感冒相關的病毒、細菌等，所以應拋棄舊牙刷以減少再次感冒的可能性。
