Overview
- What is CF8M stainless steel?
CF8M, whose equivalent is 316, is the most widely used American Standard austenitic stainless steel casting grade. The first letter "C" indicates that the alloy is mainly for corrosion resistance. The second letter "F" is the approximate position in the iron-chromium-nickel (FeCrNi) ternary diagram, indicating the content of iron, chromium and nickel. The number "8" indicates the maximum carbon content in increments of 0.01%. In this case, 0.08%. The last letter "M" indicates the presence of molybdenum.
It offers a good balance of corrosion resistance, usability, strength and cost. It also has excellent corrosion resistance under normal atmospheric conditions, including coastal exposure. It is also resistant to most water and salt water at ambient temperatures.
Chemical composition of CF8M stainless steel
There are two different material standards for CF8M stainless steel, one is ASTM A351 and the other is ASTM A743, but the chemical composition is not much different.
CF8M stainless steel casting
Like other stainless steel alloys (CF3, CF3M, CF8, etc.), CF8M stainless steel is one of the most commonly used steel grades in investment casting. JC Casting can manufacture CF8M stainless steel castings in various shapes. If you have any project about CF8M stainless steel castings, please contact us.
