The exchanger medium comes in various forms, such as naturally occurring zeolite materials to industrially synthesised ion exchange resins. Regardless of the type of exchanger, ion exchange is understood to occur at a stoichiometric ratio; that is, one ion of a certain charge in solution migrates into the exchanger phase and replaces ions of equivalent charge resident on the exchanger surface. The process of hydrometallurgy equipment has been studied primarily by three experimental methodologies; kinetic, equilibrium and column studies.

  Determining of the chemical composition of an alloy (metal) is not simple process. It is necessary to have test equipment, appropriate method and trained staff. There are large number of standards that prescribe the method of the chemical composition determining. Primary they are divided according to basic metal which is carrier of alloy and secondary in the group of alloys belonging to that alloy carrier.

  There are different metallurgical processes to recover the REEs in the NdFeB magnet scrap at various technology-readiness levels (TRLs), including hydrogen decrepitation, chemical vapor transport, liquid metal extraction, hydrometallurgical processing, and pyrometallurgical slag extraction, among many others. However, the majority of these techniques were developed to recover the REEs from pre-consumer (manufacturing) scrap that is relatively clean and homogenous, and particularly having a high REE concentration. The recovery of REEs from complex post-consumer magnet scrap has not been well studied before.
