  You may find that the valve can be either inside or outside of the home. Many times, it is going to be found under the sink or close to the water heater for the area.   For those who are not able to find the shut-off valve at the time, try to find the source of the flooding and see if there is something you can turn off in that location. Once you do that, leave the building and call a plumber to come and help.

   

  If you find it is unsafe to stay in the building, such as when the flooding happens during a hurricane or a natural disaster, get out of the apartment. Only grab what you can get your hands on within two minutes, like your medication, paperwork, and computer and then don’t look back. Someone else can take care of the rest.
