The weight capacity is the amount of weight that the tool can lift without any problems. The hydraulic air bottle jacks come in different weight capacities and are usually marked in tons. You should use a jack that corresponds to the weight of the vehicle. Remember that the hydraulic air bottle jacks supports only 60% per cent of vehicle weight. That means that a 2-ton bottle jack can lift a 3-ton car.
Lifting Range
Next thing to think about is the lifting range of the bottle jack. It is essential to check how high the bottle jack can lift corresponds to your needs. Commonly, bottle jacks lifting range varies from 9 to 18 inches. less

I only use my bottle jack on the trails but am looking to see if anyone is doing anything unique with storage and safe usage with their jacks on the trail.
I have always been a little nervous whenever I use my bottle jack. Common thoughts that run through my mind are: 1) Is the ground too soggy or unstable? 2) Will the jack slip off the mounting point or tip over? 3) Was my jeep going to come down on top of me as soon as I got the flat tire removed? 4) Was the jack going to reach my lifting point or would I have to stack it on rocks or blocks, further increasing the “slip or tip over factor”? less

It is what pushes the pistons upwards to do the heavy lifting. Without oil, it won’t be able to perform its usual tasks of lifting heavy loads, that’s why always make it a point to check the level of the oil in your hydraulic jack to maintain its lasting usability.

To know the required lifting capacity, check the weight of the vehicles you are working on.
On the market, you will find different jack types with different capacities:
For light vehicles (cars, SUV, pick-up trucks…) use a trolley jack, with a lifting capacity varying between 2 and 3 tons.
For heavy vehicles (trucks, buses, agricultural & construction vehicles, aircrafts, reach stakers…), use an air hydraulic jack with a lifting capacity that can vary from 30 tons to 100 tons, depending on the manufacturer and the model.
2 important things you should know about the lifting capacity:
The lifting capacity of an air hydraulic jack varies for each lifting step : For a 50-ton air hydraulic jack, depending on the lifting height required, the lifting capacity varies between 15 and 50 tons. less
