We will delve into the significance and rituals of Gauri Vrat, which is observed from 17 July to 21 July. Gauri Vrat is a significant five-day fasting festival primarily celebrated by unmarried girls and women in the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra. This vrat is dedicated to Goddess Parvati, also known as Gauri, who symbolizes purity, fertility, and marital bliss.
The primary objective of Gauri Vrat is to seek the blessings of Goddess Parvati for a good husband and a happy married life. During these five days, devotees observe strict fasting and adhere to various rituals with utmost devotion. The vrat commences on the Tritiya (third day) of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Ashadha and concludes on the Saptami
Participants abstain from consuming grains and cereals and primarily eat fruits, milk, and nuts. They wake up early, take a holy bath, and perform puja by offering flowers, fruits, and sweets to an idol or picture of Goddess Parvati. Chanting of Gauri Mantras and reading of Gauri Vrat Katha is an integral part of the rituals.
The concluding day, known as Gauri Tritiya, involves the immersion of the Gauri idol in water, symbolizing the return of Goddess Parvati to Mount Kailash with Lord Shiva. This vrat reinforces faith and devotion and fosters a sense of discipline and spirituality among the participants.
