Authentic Archie Bradley Jersey .J. -- Bryce Petty jogged onto the field to a standing ovation from excited New York Jets fans eager to see him make his first NFL start. When it was all over, they left the stadium disappointed.Petty was intercepted by Alec Ogletree with just under two minutes left, lifting the Los Angeles Rams to a 9-6 victory over the Jets.Im not going to let this define my career, Petty said. Im not going to let this define me.Petty started in place of an injured Ryan Fitzpatrick, a move many fans and media had been clamoring for for weeks. But after a solid first few drives, Petty and the Jets couldnt get much going against the Rams defense.I really cant wait to go back and watch film, Petty said, learn from this and get better from it.The Jets dropped to 3-7 and their playoff hopes are just about over. Their quarterback situation remains uncertain, with coach Todd Bowles unwilling to commit to either Petty or Fitzpatrick as the starter for New Yorks next game against New England in two weeks following a bye-week break.Well evaluate that next week, Bowles said. Weve got the bye week to evaluate that and well see how Fitz feels. Well watch the film on Bryce and well make the determination next week.Fitzpatrick was listed as questionable with a sprained left knee , suffered last weekend at Miami. Bowles said throughout the week Fitzpatrick would remain the starter for Sundays game -- as long as he was healthy enough to play. The two split first-team snaps during practice all week.Fitz wasnt completely healthy, Bowles said. Although he took reps in practice, Bryce took the `important reps.Fitzpatrick was active for the game and served as Pettys backup, while rookie Christian Hackenberg was inactive.I wanted to start, Fitzpatrick said, but theres a lot of things that go into the decision.Fitzpatrick tried to prove to the coaches and medical staff before the game that he was ready to play, but they determined he would sit out and would play only in an emergency. That put Petty under center, the 29th quarterback to start for the franchise since Joe Namaths final games with the Jets in 1976.He made some good throws, Bowles said of Petty. Hes got some growing pains. He ran out there for the first time and from a composure standpoint, he was fine. Hes just got to clean up a few things. After getting the ball with 2:55 remaining and down by three, Petty tried to lead the Jets downfield. But on second-and-7 from the New York 42, Pettys pass to Quincy Enunwa was picked off by Ogletree. Enunwa tried to wrestle it away from the linebacker to no avail, and Case Keenum took three knees to end it.This one hurts, Petty said. Kind of took this one on the chin for myself. I wanted a better outcome, but I love this game.Petty, a fourth-round draft pick out of Baylor last year, went 19 of 32 for 163 yards with a touchdown and the loss-sealing interception. This is hopefully the beginning of a long career for me, Petty said. Its at least what I anticipate, what I want. Theres things youve got to learn.Greg Zuerlein kicked three field goals, including a go-ahead 34-yarder with 6:52 left, helping the Rams (4-5) snap a four-game losing streak and avoid their first five-game skid since weeks 9-13 last season. The game featured 15 punts -- eight by the Jets and seven by the Rams -- as neither offense were the models of efficiency or excitement. New York finished with 296 yards of total offense, while the Rams had 280.Petty drove the Jets 99 yards on the Jets second possession, finishing with his first NFL TD pass with a little razzle-dazzle on a toss to Brandon Marshall, who flipped it to Bilal Powell for a 4-yard score.I think he was efficient, Marshall said. Hell get better, and well continue to make plays for him.But Petty misfired on a long pass on third-and-14 from the Rams 32 that couldve been an easy touchdown in the closing minute of the first half. He slightly overthrew Robby Anderson, who was wide open but had to reach high as the ball tipped off his hand.Ive got to hit that, Petty said. Ive got to make that as easy as possible. I wish I had that one back. Those are the plays in this kind of game that youve got to make. I missed that.---For more NFL coverage:

TORONTO, Ontario -- Will Acton came through again for the Toronto Marlies. Acton scored the winning goal early in the third period as the Marlies beat the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-2 on Saturday to even the AHL semifinal series at a game apiece. He only has two goals in the playoff, but both have been game-winners. In Round 1, he clinched the series against Rochester, scoring in overtime of Game 3 to sweep the Americans. On Saturday, he took a saucer pass from Jerry DAmigo in the slot area and snapped the puck past Petr Mrazek at 2:36 to put the Marlies ahead for good. "Willy scored a huge goal in Rochester and he did it again tonight -- another game-winner," said Greg Scott, who continued his torrid post-season play, scoring a goal and adding an empty-netter. "Hes got a shot on him and when he uses it, its a weapon." With captain Ryan Hamilton and scorer Joe Colborne up with the Maple Leafs, Marlies coach Dallas Eakins has entrusted Acton, whos on an AHL contract with Toronto, with top-six minutes so far in the post-season. "Tonight, I didnt love his first period," Eakins said. "I had to bark at him a bit on the bench. But the great thing about Willy is that you can give him a bit of a boot and he responds. Hes a diligent kid, such a hard worker and a big part of the character of our group. "Its great to see him respond like that. It was a huge goal." The series now shifts to Grand Rapids for the next three games. The Griffins took Game 1, crushing the Marlies 7-0, the worst playoff loss in Torontos franchise history. "Game 1 was a little rough," Scott said. "Our first period, I dont think we played that well, but in the second and third we got going. "The second half, we just bought into what we were doing. We were playing Toronto Marlies hockey." Ryan Lasch had the other goal for Toronto and Drew MacIntyre made 30 saves for the win. Tomas Jurco and Landon Ferraro replied for Grand Rapids. Mrazek stopped 28 shots in defeat. After a scoreless first period, the teams opened up with two goals apiece in the second. The Griffins got on the board first at 8:36 on a 2-on-1 rush. Jurco dished to Teemu Pulkkinen who poked the puck toward the Toronto goal. MacIntyre couldnt coral it and Jurco swooped in from the right side of the net to flick the puck over the sprawling goalie.

It came on the power play, when Lasch scored on his second chance at a rebound off a Paul Ranger point shot. The 5-9, 175-pound Lasch was playing his first game of the playoffs after sitting out the first four games. "Grand Rapids wants to play a skilled game," Eakins said. "Thats what Ryan Lasch can do and thats why we inserted him. We thought he could have a real profound effect against a team like this that plays a style like his." Toronto then took its first lead of the series at 15:03 when Scott scored his second short-handed goal of the playoffs. "Ziggy pinched up on their guy cutting across and knocked the puck free," Scott said. "I thought I was in alone, but they had a guy on me. I made a little move, buried my head and shot it." But Grand Rapids got its own short-handed goal 1:41 later when Ferraro scored on a breakaway after Ranger fumbled the puck at the Griffins blue-line with no one behind him to back him up. Grand Rapids owned most of the play in the first two periods, getting the first seven shots in each frame before the Marlies were able to record a shot on goal and outshooting Toronto 28-15. "We were firmly out of sorts in the first period, but Drew held us in," Eakins said. "In the third, I went with the guys who got us here and shortened the bench right up, drastically and our guys responded." "When you get saves from your goaltender, especially timely ones and big ones, it gives your team confidence, and it excites the bench," Eakins said. "The problem was we had to wait 25 to 35 minutes before we could really get going, so we dont want to go down that road too much." After Acton scored the winner early in the third period, Scott got his second of the game, an empty-netter at 18:41, his league-leading seventh of the post-season.
