Do wavy wigs tangle more than straight wigs?

  • One of the most asked questions, especially when looking to compare a wavy wig versus a straight wig, is, Are the wavy wigs going to be more prone to tangling? Indeed, one needs to understand that answering this question requires knowledge of the nature of the wig's texture and how it can affect maintenance.

Wavy wigs were designed to be textured or patterned in textured patterns; thus, the hair is able to bend and curve naturally. While this provides added body and character to the wig, it also means it predisposes the strands of hair within the wig to rub upon each other more frequently and thus where, the hair tangling may occur from increased levels of friction if the proper care is not taken. Sometimes the wave pattern itself catches forest debris, along with moisture, which adds up to tangling.

On the straight wigs, the strands are smooth, thus allowing the individual strands to lie flat without much interaction. This, therefore, reduces the chances of tangling since hair tangling is mainly associated with interaction. Easier maintenance and handling are therefore felt on this wig type. Tangling hair is not an exception on the straight wigs, but factors such as quality, length, number of times the wig is worn, and handling play a major role.

While wigs should not knot if daily maintenance is followed in the form of gently running a wide-tooth comb through the hair and avoiding vigorous brushing, there is little an owner of wavy wigs could do. They should also use hair care products that are compatible with the materials; it is also useful to store the wig on a mannequin head or in a silk bag when not in use.

Basically, what's wavy makes it more laced than straight; a tangled tangle is likely to happen with a wavy wig. On the brighter side, though, you can still maintain a wavy wig with good care and attention while making sure it doesn't get tangled up.
