Curly hair bundles get knotted more easily than straight ones due to the texture and structure of hair. Naturally, curly hair has a curl pattern that creates loops and coils; thereby curl patterns are more likely to induce friction and knotting. The tighter the curls, the more likely the strands are going to tangle up and mess up with each other. Straight hair has a smoother texture; it tends to just lie flat on the head with minimal tangling and rubbing of strands.
Dryness also causes tangling in curly hair bundles. Cuticles push up on dry hair and create a face that a tangle will easily form. Leaving emollients applied to the curls, such as leave-in conditioners, serums, or oils hydrates the curls and limits how much tangling will occur in bundles.
Another is the density of the curly hair that tends to be very voluminous. This also means that there are more strands around each strand, and therefore, the possibility of tangling is increased. This can be avoided by detangling regularly with a wide-tooth comb or by fingers, especially when the hair is wet and conditioned.
Although hair bundles for straight hair are much easier not to tangle-they tend to be smoother and lack coiling -the hair can still tangle provided it is exposed to wind, friction, or dryness.
Hair bundles for curly hair tend to tangle pretty easily compared to straight hair, however this can be minimized if the hair is well maintained including frequent detangling and moisturizing.
