  • Hey everyone,

Just returned from 2 weeks in Morocco and wanted to share what I learned about renting a car in Agadir since the info online is pretty outdated.

The Airport Situation: Al Massira Airport has the usual suspects (Europcar, Hertz, etc.) right in the arrivals hall. Prices were crazy - €45-60/day for a basic Clio. BUT there are local companies that deliver to the airport for half that price. We paid €18/day for a Dacia Logan.

Big Discovery - No Credit Card Needed: This blew my mind. Several local agencies don't require credit card deposits. They accept cash (euros or dirhams) and you just pay when you pick up the car. No €1000+ frozen on your card. Game changer if you're budget traveling or don't have a credit card.

    What You Actually Need:

    • Driver's license (held for 2+ years)
    • Passport
    • Be over 20 (not 25 like some places)
    • That's it. No international permit needed for stays under 90 days

    Best Routes We Did:

    1. Paradise Valley - 30min drive, go early (before 9am) to beat crowds
    2. Taghazout - 20min, great for surfing, easy parking
    3. Essaouira - 2.5 hours coastal drive, absolutely stunning
    4. Taroudant - 1.5 hours inland, authentic souks without tourist prices

    Driving Tips:

    • Police checkpoints are chill, just slow down and they wave you through
    • Parking in Agadir costs 2-5 dirhams/hour (nothing!)
    • Roundabouts are wild but you get used to them
    • Gas stations everywhere, no issues

    Costs Breakdown:

    • Car rental: €18/day (Dacia Logan, manual)
    • Insurance: Included
    • Gas: About €20 for 3 days of driving
    • Tolls: Only €3 to Marrakech highway

    Mistakes to Avoid:

    • Don't book at airport desks (overpriced)
    • Check for existing damage before driving off
    • Full-to-full fuel policy is standard
    • Automatic cars cost double, book ahead if needed

We used carrentagadir.com after comparing prices. Picked us up at airport at midnight, no drama. But there are several good local options if you search around.

Anyone planning to drive to the Sahara from Agadir? Different insurance rules apply apparently. Would love to hear experiences!

Hope this helps someone. Happy to answer questions about specific routes or anything else!
