Fishing isn't useful for every class in the game, as it's a Secondary Profession that provides cooking ingredients. It also requires patience; prospective Fishermen shouldn't be deterred and discouraged if they haul in grey items when they cast out their lines.
Types of Fishing Locations
There are two types of fishing locations. Pay attention to which kind of fish it is so you aren't fishing in the wrong spot.
*Inland fish and pools are found in lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams
*Coastal fish and pools are only found along sea coasts
One fish, Oily Blackmouth, has one set of pools that are Mixed, meaning that it is found in both Coastal and Inland waters.
How Do You Make Money With Fishing?
There are three main ways of making money with your fishing rod.
1.Cast your line in Schools of Deviate Fish. These fish can be caught in The Barrens or in Wailing Cavern. You can also make money from selling your catch to Alchemists, who need Deviates for their recipes.
2.Catch Big-Mouth Clams. Some of them will contain one of four different kinds of pearls which can be sold at a high price. These Clams can mainly be caught in coastal zones.
3.Fishing Stonescale Eels, which can prove extremely lucrative once mastered. You'll need to have 220 in Fishing to reel in these moneyspinners, but it's best to wait until you're well above this point, or to wear gear that gives you a passive boost to your Fishing skill before you try to catch them. They're guaranteed to sell well at the Auction House and can mostly be caught in Feralas or Stranglethorn Vale
open waters.
How to Level your Fishing Skill
To level your Fishing, you should fish in any body of water you come across. There isn't really a defined way to level this Profession, but there are several areas that are great to fish in. Levelling is dependant on you reeling in fish or junk instead of being based on the level of the zone or the quality of your catch. Unlike most professions, increasing your fishing skill is completely unrelated to the difficulty of the task. Every time you catch something (even junk) you gain fishing experience towards your next skill level. It works similarly to XP and leveling. The first 75 or so fish caught will be enough fishing experience to gain a skill up every time. The next 75 or so fish caught will give enough fishing experience to gain half of a skill point, etc. It's very standard and you can count the fish between skill ups with extreme accuracy. Knowing this can help alleviate some of the grind.
