CALGARY -- Eddie Lack continues to impress as the latest understudy to Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo.
Cheap Air Max Trainers . Lack made 18 saves for his fifth straight win and second shutout of the season Sunday night as the Vancouver Canucks continued a sensational month of December with a 2-0 victory over the Calgary Flames. "It was a pretty easy night for me," said Lack, making his third consecutive start with Luongo (lower body) on injured reserve. "I had to be sharp a couple times but overall, I felt that our D-men boxed them out really good." Lack improves to 7-2-0 on the season and moves into third in the league with a 1.74 goals-against average. His .933 save percentage is sixth best. "The guys are playing awesome in front of me. I cant really complain about anything. I just want to keep it going," said Lack. Vancouver got the only goal it would need in the final minute of the first period on a terrific breakaway pass from Henrik Sedin and an even better finish from the speedy Jannik Hansen. After Mark Giordanos shot was blocked, Sedin corralled the puck and spotted Hansen darting up the ice. Looking like a quarterback waiting for his receiver to get open, Sedin paused before hitting him with a perfect pass. "I saw an opportunity for us to turn the puck over in our end so took a chance that we were going to get it and fortunately enough it ends up on Hanks tape and hes able to feather it through," said Hansen. "It jumped on me and I think that fooled the goalie a little bit too and I maybe caught him a little bit out of position and leaving a little more room than he would have liked to." It was Giordano who Hansen got behind before whipping a shot into the top corner on Reto Berra. "I thought I could have stopped the pass but he made a pretty good pass in the air and landed it right on the guys stick, said the Flames captain. "In hindsight, I maybe should have turned around and got back but even if I did that, I dont know if I would have been able to get back in time." Mike Santorelli also scored for Vancouver (23-11-6). Playing for the first time in a week, the Canucks improve to 10-1-1 in its last 12. They are right back in action Monday night when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers at Rogers Arena. "If you look at the standings, its extremely tight," Hansen said. "If youre not stringing wins together, youre not going anywhere. Weve played a tremendous December and were still fourth in our division." Calgary (14-19-6) falls to 1-2-0 with two games remaining on a five-game homestand. The Flames next opponent is also Philadelphia, hosting them on New Years Eve. "Goal scoring, thats the toughest part of this league," said Flames coach Bob Hartley. "Right now, we have a few guys that are squeezing the sticks." Coming off a 2-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Friday, Calgary has been shut out at the Scotiabank Saddledome since before Christmas, a span of 125 minutes and 5 seconds. "We have to keep going, we have lots of youngsters that are facing adversity right now and we have a few veterans who are facing adversity. The number one priority we have is to stick together," Hartley said. "We knew that we would have some bumps on the road and right now, were there. Coming back from the break, it seems like we cant buy a goal." With some spectacular saves, Berra kept the game 1-0 until 18:44 of the third period when Santorelli converted a two-on-one on Vancouvers 30th shot of the night. The Flames first-year Swiss goaltender falls to 5-10-2. "In the second period, we spent so much time in our zone. Vancouver played like we wanted to play," said Flames defenceman Chris Butler, the Flames ice-time lead with 24:16. "By the time we got the puck and were skating out of the zone, everybody was dog tired so you have to dump it in and go for a change. Its tough to get sustained pressure that way." Trailing 1-0 after two periods despite being outshot 24-8, the Flames came out flying in the third pouring on early pressure on Lack but couldnt solve the Swede. The game got off to a rousing start when rugged Flames fourth liner Brian McGrattan got his arm up high on a heavy hit along the side boards in the Canucks end that caught defenceman Andrew Alberts in the head and flattened him. While Alberts remained down, McGrattan squared off in a fight with giant Canucks enforcer Tom Sestito. Alberts did not return. Notes: Henrik Sedin needed stitches after getting hit in the ear by a puck in warm-up. He played in his 669 consecutive game, which is the second longest active iron man streak and sixth longest in league history... Flames C Markus Granlund, recalled early this morning from Abbotsford (AHL), did not end up playing when Mikael Backlund was ruled good to go after the warm-up. Granlund, 20, has never played an NHL game... Twenty-five of the Flames 39 games have been decided by one goal, which leads the NHL. Five more would have been one-goal games if not for an empty goal.

Nike Air Max Cheap Wholesale . Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Tuukka Rask, Boston Bruins (5) – He had a brilliant game; it was a huge response for his average games before.CALGARY - When Johnny Gaudreau scores a goal on home ice, the Calgary Flames play Chuck Berrys song Johnny B. Goode. That song was heard twice Saturday night as the exciting Calgary rookie continued his strong play in recent weeks in which good would be an understatement.Making it six goals in the last three games, Gaudreau scored his 11th and 12th goals to lead the Flames to a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers, extending the Oilers latest winless streak to nine games.Im pretty excited about getting the chance to score some goals, said Gaudreau, who won the Hobey Baker Award last year with Boston College. They werent coming throughout the first 20, 30 games of the season. I was kind off to a slow start but its nice to see the puck going in the net.Saturdays two goals comes on the heels of Gaudreaus hat trick in Tuesdays 4-3 comeback victory over the Los Angeles Kings.I think that might have been the quickest Ive ever scored two goals, said Gaudreau, who is second in rookie scoring with 29 points, five behind the leader, Nashvilles Filip Forsberg. Our line is playing really well and the team is playing pretty well right now, too, so we have to keep it up.According to Elias, Gaudreau is the first Flames rookie since Joe Nieuwendyk in March 1988 to record consecutive multi-goal games.Hes so quick. Hes pouncing on those loose pucks with lots of speed. Hes capable of scoring any way, said Flames coach Bob Hartley. His chemistry with Jiri Hudler is phenomenal. Whether we play them with (Markus) Granlund or (Josh) Jooris, it seems they always find a way to get on the scoreboard for us, and thats so important.Gaudreaus goals came 16 seconds apart early in the first period as the Flames blew the game open with three goals in less than two minutes.Up 1-0 on Joe Colbornes first of the year at 7:08, Gaudreau made it 2-0 at 8:32 capitalizing on an Oilers turnover. When Mark Arcobellos pass through his own slot was mishandled by David Perron, Gaudreau pounced on the loose puck and quickly broke in alone on Edmonton goalie Viktor Fasth, beating him with a nifty move to his backhand.Gaudreaus second goal of the night, also on a breakaway, came on a perfect feed from TJ Brodie, who wired him a pass from behind the Flames net that hit on the tape at the Oilers blue-line.(Brodie) sees the ice so well. When you see him back there behind the net its hard not to go flying up the ice because he definitely sees you, Gaudreau said.In alone on Fasth yet again, this time Gaudreau had the puck bobble off his stick but still trickle through the pads of Fasth.Ive got to stop at least one of those to keep us in the game but I didnt, said Fasth, who was immediaately pulled after that goal by coach Todd Nelson and replaced with Ben Scrivens.

The Flames are ninth in the Western Conference, two points back of Los Angeles for the second wild-card spot.Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had the lone goal for the Oilers (7-22-7), who are winless in their last nine (0-7-2).In this league, its so hard to come back from even just one or two goals so to spot them three is unfortunate, said Nugent-Hopkins. Especially on the road, the home team is buzzing, the crowd is going, it made it really tough for us to come back even though we tried pretty hard.Dating back to November 11, Edmonton has won just once in its last 21 games (1-14-6). Since taking over coaching duties when Dallas Eakins was fired, Nelson is 0-3-2.I thought our start wasnt bad at all, and that stretch where we basically gave them three goals and didnt make them earn it. They capitalized, which is a credit to them, but we cant shoot ourselves in the foot like that, Nelson said. The second period we started to get something going, start of the third I thought we came out strong, had some good offensive zone possession, we were creating some things. Then we took a couple penalties and it killed everything we were building upon.On the opening goal, Paul Byrons centring pass caromed off a skate and on goal. Fasth sprawled to get his pad on it but Colborne tucked in the rebound. To finally see it go across the line. Ive had more than enough chances and seen goalies stop it or see it just sitting on the line. To see that one slide past was real nice, said Colborne, who scored for the first time in 27 games.Edmonton was the better team in the second period but couldnt cut into the deficit until Nugent-Hopkins scored on a deflection 4:23 into the third period.Theyre the Oilers and we hate them so anytime you can take two points from them, its nice, said Colborne.Fasth ended up with three saves to fall to 2-9-2. Scrivens stopped 20 of 21 in relief.Jonas Hiller had 26 stops to improve to 11-10-2. It was the first time in 16 starts that he has surrendered fewer than two goals.Notes — The Flames record for two fastest goals by the same player is held by Lanny McDonald, who scored six seconds apart on March 22, 1984... Calgary scored three first-period goals for the first time since March 12... With rookies Gaudreau and Josh Jooris both having hat tricks in December, its the first time since Bostons Steve Heinze and Joe Juneau in January 1993 that two rookies teammates have recorded a hat trick in the same month.
