Roku Is Expanding Into Smart Home Lighting & Security Cameras

  • Roku Is Expanding Into Smart Home Lighting & Security Cameras

Photos of what appear to be Roku smart home lighting products have popped up online, suggesting that the company could be looking to expand its footprint to the smart home segment. Best known for its digital media players competing with Amazon's Fire TV and Google's Android TV, Roku devices have been at the forefront of the smart TV revolution, helping popularize the concept with small set-top boxes and USB dongles. In its latest shareholder report, the company claimed to have more than 63.1 million active accounts, generating quarterly revenues of $764 million. To get more news about security products for home, you can visit securamsys.com official website.

Smart TV devices remain Roku's bread and butter, and the company has recently released new products to keep things fresh. Last month, the entry-level Roku Express received a 2022 refresh that brought several new features, including support for dual-band Wi-Fi and additional storage. The new device is compatible with Apple AirPlay, HomeKit, Google Home and Amazon Alexa. It also supports Digital Stereo over HDMI and DTS Digital Surround Sound over HDMI. Earlier this year, the company also announced that its premium player, the Roku Ultra, will now be bundled with the top-of-the-line Roku Voice Remote Pro.

Redditor Negative_Source_7316 posted what seems to be a stack of retail boxes for Roku smart lighting strips, fueling intense speculation that the company might be stepping into the smart home space. The photo was reportedly taken at a Walmart store, with the Redditor claiming that they also spotted some Roku LED bulbs and security cameras lying around. Following the Reddit post, ZatzNotFunny dug around and found that the Roku-branded devices are white-labeled Wyze products. The blog also posted images of more Roku smart products, revealing a laundry list of devices in the pipeline, including A19 color bulbs, light strips, smart plugs, security cameras and doorbell cams.

Along with the images, ZatzNotFunny also posted two shipping manifests that reveal more Roku smart products. As if the previous revelations are not enough to confirm Roku's foray into the smart home sector, the company is also said to be working on a 'Roku Smart Home Channel' and a new mobile app.

It's not immediately clear how Roku plans to differentiate its offerings from others in the market, but online speculations suggest that the company's light strips could sync colors with television content to offer a definitive reason for buyers to splurge on the new product. It's worth noting that such products already exist, but are relatively expensive, so it will be interesting to see if Roku can price its products at more pocket-friendly rates.
