The Philadelphia Eagles are really looking hard at the free agent wide receiver market. In addition to working out 2015 first-round pick Breshad Perriman and veteran Kamar Aiken
Youth Darren Sproles Jerseys , they’re also reportedly set to host 2016 first-round pick Corey Coleman for a visit on Tuesday. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported as much on Monday afternoon.Coleman, who turned 24 in July, was originally selected by the Browns with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. In 19 games with Cleveland, Coleman logged 56 receptions for 718 yards (12.8 yards per reception) and five touchdowns. Coleman clearly fell out of favor with the new front office in Cleveland this offseason. The Browns shipped him out to the Bills for the mere price of a conditional seventh-round draft pick. Then Buffalo turned around and waived Coleman during final cuts less than a month after first acquiring him.The Eagles are clearly looking for more help at wide receiver with Alshon Jeffery expected to miss more game(s) and Mack Hollins ending up on injured reserve. Taking a shot on a former first-round talent with speed and athleticism might not be the worst idea. Guys like Perriman and Coleman both fit that description.Another bonus angle to signing Coleman is the Eagles would then have one of the players the Browns ended up drafting with a pick from the Carson Wentz trade. That’d be great for the pettiness of it all. Seriously
Darren Sproles Jerseys Stitched , though, one has to wonder if the Eagles’ search for a new speedster is an indictment of their current deep threats, Mike Wallace and/or Shelton Gibson. Both players were held without a catch on Thursday night, although Wallace did get open and Nick Foles just underthrew him. Gibson
Youth Jerome Brown Jerseys , meanwhile, only played a mere four offensive snaps despite having a strong preseason. Or maybe Jeffery is going to be out longer than expected? We’ll soon see what the Eagles choose to do. In the meantime, they added three new receivers to their practice squad earlier today. Football is a game of attrition. The best teams usually have relatively healthy rosters, which is one of the things that made the 2017 Eagles so special. That team was able to overcome a injuries to key players and win the Super Bowl. The 2018 Eagles also dealt with injuries
Jerome Brown Jerseys Stitched , but theirs were both high quality and high quantity, and while they didn’t win the Super Bowl, they did pretty damn good for a defending champion. As we go through the Eagles post-mortem and look at the injuries that kept starters or major role players out for significant stretches, it’s impressive that the Eagles were so close to playing this weekend.16 Games (and playoffs)Mack HollinsPaul Worrilow14 GamesMike Wallace (and playoffs)13 GamesRodney McLeod (and playoffs)Timmy Jernigan12 GamesJay Ajayi (and playoffs)10 GamesDarren SprolesDerek Barnett (and playoffs)8 GamesJalen Mills (and playoffs)7 GamesRonald Darby (and playoffs)Sidney Jones (and playoffs)5 GamesCarson Wentz (and playoffs)Corey Clement (and playoffs)At no point this season did the Eagles field a full strength team. Thirteen players who were or were expected to be starters or key contributors missed at least a third of the season (and that’s not counting Chris Maragos
Youth Jordan Matthews Jerseys , who’s timetable was always up in the air until it was determined he needed a second surgery). Eleven of them missed the playoffs. Only seven players on offense played in every game, on defense only six. Continuity is just about the last word you’d use to describe the 2018 Eagles. And yet only four teams had a better season. That’s a huge testament to the rest of the talent on the roster, the front office, and the coaching staff.
