Unfortunately MyCareer is a bit of a mess

  • December 1, 2021
The career itself is relatively simple, but it's overall variety and 2K22 MT detail that will draw most newcomers in. Your MP version will be in close alignment with long-time friend and brand manager Ricky as you choose agents, deal with social media scandals, and expand your MyCareer outside of the court and game of basketball. You want to focus on becoming a fashion-conscious guru? You got it. Want to follow in the footsteps of "Dame Dolla" and get started on an rap career?

There's plenty to do in NBA 2K22. While these extracurricular pursuits rarely go beyond a handful of cute cutscenes and fetch quests, it's a nice inclusion since a lot of conversations and decisions touch on life beyond the NBA and what it means to not just an athlete.

A celebrity, however, has heightened consequences for your actions. It's not necessary to partake in any way, since you could simply go across match after game in pursuit of better stats as you gain more MP. However, I can appreciate this feeling of depth, diversity and scope.

Unfortunately MyCareer is a bit of a mess. MyCareer mode has fallen victim to some of the pitfalls that have caused problems for the program for several years now. Since your performance is built on the same grade system as in previous iterations, you are too often punished for situations that are completely out of your control. In the case of a player, for instance, they might be assigned to protect an opponent in a particular way, but when confronted with a screen, they will choose to fight and stick to your designated player.

In a random way, the player assigned to they are assigned to switches with the person who screened you, as they run off to the other side of the court. It is now left open and unattended. This is the time you're hit with heavy "leave defensive assignment" as well as defensive breakdown penalties that hurt your performance grade and aren't your fault. It's not an issue that 2K22 mt buy is major however, it has remained for long enough to finally frustrate me until I decided to write about it here.
