Where the World’s Youngest and Oldest Drink MostAn anticipated

An anticipated 6 million people will tip tankards of beer in and around Bavaria this weekend, either as an homage to King Ludwig I whose 1810 nuptials to Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen is believed to have spawned the first ever Oktoberfest, or simply to enjoy what has become the largest folk festival in Germany.

The celebration of all things brewed and boiled perhaps contributes to Germans' standing as the second-most prolific consumers of alcohol in the world, behind only Denmark, according to data compiled by the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.

Yet Germany appears to have a healthy – or at least healthier compared to other nations – approach to drinking, with its male population ranking 36th globally for alcohol use, and an average across its population of four drinks per day. That ranking continue to drop for underage drinking.
