There is widespread anger among students and their parents, who believe that NTA's negligence and corruption led to a significant paper leak, resulting in a cut-off increase by 50-60 marks. NTA exacerbated the situation by awarding grace marks arbitrarily. In a public notice issued on June 6, NTA admitted to granting grace marks to over 1,500 students.
Such irregularities in a crucial exam like NEET put the entire system under scrutiny. Millions of students prepare for this exam for three to four years, hoping for a bright future, only to have their dreams shattered by the corrupt practices of the conducting agency, NTA. This is a severe blow to any diligent student's morale. NEET, one of the toughest exams globally, sees around 2.5 million students competing, and succeeding is already incredibly challenging. The paper leak has destroyed the futures of many, an unforgivable crime. Those responsible should be punished. Instead of being celebrated for their excellent performance, students who should have been rejoicing are now protesting in the sweltering 50-degree heat. Tragically, there have been reports of suicides in some areas.
These painful incidents are the result of officials who, despite sufficient evidence of a paper leak, tried to cover it up. When the NEET results were announced on June 4, students were shocked. NTA declared the results ten days before the scheduled date, hoping that the country's media would be too preoccupied with general election results to notice their misdeeds. However, their plan failed. Not just social media, but mainstream media as well, is loudly declaring that a massive scam occurred in this exam. Students are demanding the cancellation of this exam and a re-conduct of NEET. With no elected government at the center and the courts on summer vacation, young and innocent students are being forced to beg for justice on the streets of cities like Kanpur, Patna, Kota, and Jaipur.
If justice is not served to these students, their faith in the country's judicial system is bound to be shattered. Has Indian society lost the ability to hear the cries of its children and understand their pain? If the youth lose their trust in the country's system, it would be the greatest tragedy of all.
