After more than a decade in existence, thereâs still debate over what kind of investment Bitcoin is. Owning Bitcoin is not like owning stock in a company. Unlike a business, Bitcoin doesn't generate revenue by selling products or services. It doesn't issue dividends. It also doesnât have a CEO, board of directors or any other centralized group that sets goals or that can be held accountable. As Bitcoin volume is rising exponentially, it will start catching up with NYSE group volume and upset a lot of people. In fact, volume has been decreasing on the NYSE for a while now. According to data from the site, up until 31st October in 2010 and 2011, total dollar volume was around $10.1T. In 2017, the same period has around $8.7T. We canât say all that volume has migrated onto the Bitcoin exchanges, but we can say Wall Street volume is decreasing, and as other sources of liquidity central banks eventually tighten, firms will be competing for a smaller and smaller piece of the pie. less
