A manicurist applies pre-mixed acrylic to the nails for a gel manicure and pedicure. The acrylic is then hardened under UV (ultraviolet) light with a small, portable UV machine. Up to three coats of gel may be needed for application, and each coat must be set, or "cured," under the light.
