Phone tracker Australia has already been used by the Australian government to generate anonymous social mobility reports, but not to identify users or determine their location relative to each other. In theory, the government could access this data to locate users without their consent under the auspices of national security. Still, such access is strictly limited and data leakage is a criminal offense. This pre-existing tracking infrastructure is further hampered by the technology’s accuracy, which becomes less accurate when network towers are sparsely populated.
