导出博客文章RIO DE JANEIRO -- Two years ago the British womens hockey team came up with this mission statement: Be the difference, create history, inspire the future.
Discount Nike Air Max 1 .In Deodoro on Friday night it was mission accomplished with their dramatic penalty-shootout victory against double Olympic champions the Netherlands. It wasnt pretty for much of the match, which ended 3-3, but Team GB is on such a roll in Brazil that the path its athletes have been on seems to be golden come what may.Goalkeeper Maddie Hinch was, appropriately, kitted out in the colour of the medal she deserved and no player did more to help the team complete their mission.Inevitably, the Twittersphere was awash with tributes to the 27-year-old who was overlooked for the team that won bronze at London 2012. Gary Lineker and Stuart Broad were among those gushing with praise, and Michael Vaughan had the most outrageous suggestion. Even author J.K. Rowling saw the magic in Hinch and her shootout heroics. The goalkeeper was superb during a match which mostly saw Team GB on the back foot, having to make a series of impressive and key saves to provide hope and keep them in the contest. In the shootout, despite once needing the assistance of the post, she produced a shutout which enabled her side to win that 2-0.It helped that Britain had beaten the Netherlands in a shootout in the EuroHockey Championships last year, but Hinch would have known everything about their players anyway. Her secret? Research and practice -- and the help of a video analyst who used to work for Reading Football Club and is considered something of a genius within the squad.I am glad I made the nation proud, Hinch said. I was a bit nervous and my legs felt really heavy but I was confident as well. It was a great chance for me to do my bit as a goalie. I enjoy shootouts. We definitely backed ourselves going into it. I give myself a gameplan for each player and I go out and execute that.It is all in the notebook. I am constantly keeping my database up to date. We have a huge amount of data and I can go back years and years and look at details of one player, what she has done every time. I narrowed it to one plan for each player.Hinch even takes notes into the game written on her water bottle and the detailed, scientific approach is typical of a team under the leadership of coach Danny Kerry. Unlike the players for certain other national teams from the UK in the past, Team GB womens hockey players do practice penalties. The fervent hope of Hinch and every other British player and coach who spoke to the media afterwards was that this result would give British hockey lift-off; that this would be their Sean Kerly moment - a game-changing filip for a sport that has been in the doldrums, as it was when he and the British mens team struck gold in Seoul.Do you remember watching in 1988, the mens final? captain Kate Richardson-Walsh asked wife and cool penalty-stroke taker in the shootout, Helen Richardson-Walsh.I was eight and I know interest in hockey increased so much. We really want that again. We want to inspire boys, girls, everybody to pick up a hockey stick. I hope the people who played at school go back and pick up a stick again. The game has changed. Its for everybody, a family sport - we welcome everybody with open arms.As the first same-sex married couple to win a Games title, they can speak from personal experience about the inclusive nature of the sport in Britain. To win an Olympic medal is special, Kate said. To win it with your wife standing next to you, taking the penalty at the pressure moment, is so special, and we will cherish this for the rest of our lives. This was Kates last competition in international hockey and Helen all but confirmed it would be hers, too. Like the sport that means so much to them, they have been through a lot. What a journey it has been for both of us, Helen said. We made our debuts in 1999 and its been 17 years of ups and, probably, mostly downs. We started very low, eighth in Sydney, and from that moment myself and Kate just wanted to win a gold medal and become Olympic champions. Its not been easy but it shows if you dedicate your life to something you can make it happen.Until the London cycle it was really a dream but that turned everything around. It was something that could happen. We got belief in the squad. Two years ago I didnt think I was going to be on the pitch again [after two back operations], let alone standing here winning a gold medal. Its incredible for hockey in our country. As a team, they certainly made a difference on Friday. History was created, too, as they became the first British womens hockey side to win an Olympic title. And if the last quarter of their match and the penalty shootout didnt inspire people, nothing will.

The All-Pro lineman got the leg bent under him while trying to make a tackle during the first half of a 22-20 overtime loss at Miami on Thursday night. The medical staff initially thought hed torn the ligament, and the test a day later in Cincinnati confirmed it. The ICC announced on Monday that a revised constitution for USA Cricket Association will be put up for consideration at the next ICC board meeting later this month. Ratifying a revised constitution is one of the key terms and conditions for the USACA to be reinstated as an Associate member of the ICC following their suspension in 2015.The announcement came after an ICC delegation including chief executive David Richardson and chairman Shashank Manohar spent the weekend in New York having meetings with stakeholders, including members of four advisory groups appointed to help carry out the ICCs strategic framework outline. According to the ICC release, members of the advisory group formulated the revised constitution over the last several months before presenting it to the ICC delegation this weekend. The advisory groups comprises people from across the USA cricket community, including USACA board members and administrators. We have heard from representatives across the USA cricketing community and there is a clear desire from them to unify under a single umbrella, Richardson said. The ICC is here to facilitate that process of building a strong foundation on which the sport can develop.

Should the ICC Board consider the new constitution appropriate for the US market then we would look to USACA to adopt that as part of the fulfilment of their reinstatement conditions before full implementation of the constitution in 2017.USACA board representatives, including president Gladstone Dainty, also met separately with the ICC delegation over the weekend. It is unclear how much input, if any, the Dainty-led board - separate from the USACA administrators who have been appointed to the ICC advisory groups - had in the revised constitution that will be presented to the ICC board. The ICC had given USACA until December 15 to comply with meeting all conditions for reinstatement, including ratifying a new constitution. Failure to meet the deadline may result in a resolution to be put to the ICC board before the end of the year for the expulsion of USACA, which would be put forward at the ICC annual conference in June 2017.
