导出博客文章TORONTO -- Steven Stamkos has had the World Cup of Hockey on his mind for more than two years.
Authentic Billy Williams Jersey .From the moment he was told his Olympics were finished before they even started and his heart was shattered by the news that his broken leg had not healed enough for him to make the trip to Sochi in February 2014, the Tampa Bay Lightning captain began soothing that pain with the dream of wearing the Maple Leaf in his hometown on this stage -- the red Maple Leaf, that is.This was something I was really looking forward to ever since, really, the Olympic dream was over, that next opportunity to wear that sweater again, Stamkos said Monday after practice. When I was named to the team, it was something that was definitely circled on the calendar and worked hard for. While Team Canada battled it out for two weeks in Sochi, Stamkos got away from it all in the Cayman Islands. It was pretty grueling what I was doing to try to get back to play in the Olympics, and to feel as if I was ready ... mentally and physically ... and then going to the doctor and not being able to [play], it was pretty crushing, he said. I needed time and space away from everything, so I went on a little vacation.Stamkos couldnt bring himself to watch the Olympic tournament until the final game, when his patriotic feelings took over.It was bittersweet knowing what went on and how that would have been a special memory for me, he said, but as a Canadian, I was very proud, as friends, of all those guys. One can make the argument that no player in the World Cup wants to shine more than Stamkos, who is playing in front of family members and wants to make up for the lost Sochi opportunity. Its been a great experience for me, this tournament here, said Stamkos, who is from Markham, just north of Toronto. I get to go home and spend time with friends and family and then come back and be with the guys. I couldnt have asked for a better situation, and I couldnt have asked for a better start for our team.I wonder, however, if he hasnt been pressing a bit in the three pretournament games and the tournament opener, a 6-0 win over the Czech Republic. Stamkos, one of the NHLs most talented goal scorers, has a burning desire to leave his imprint on this stage.I liked him his first two exhibition games. I didnt like him in Game 3. And I liked him last game. Three of four is pretty good, Team Canada head coach Mike Babcock said Monday in assessing Stamkos play so far.The work ethic? The desire? Babcock isnt questioning that.Hes so energized because he loves the game so much, he said.I asked Stamkos about the perils of putting too much pressure on himself because he wants so badly to have an impact.I think my mentality has always been, when you get to these tournaments, you get to represent your country, do whatever it takes to win, what were all here for, he said. I know its a cliché, but guys are willing to do whatever it takes. Thats a staple of Team Canada hockey. After spending most of camp and the pretournament games on a line with Jonathan Toews and Logan Couture, Stamkos was put with?John Tavares and Ryan Getzlaf just before the tournament. There were signs against the Czechs that the line could be something special. Stamkos was robbed of a goal by Michal Neuvirth on one of several chances his line had.It almost feels like that line is about to explode, which might be bad news for Team USA on Tuesday.I mean, to try and keep a goal scorer like that off the sheet is not easy, especially when he has that many looks, Getzlaf said of Stamkos. As long as were getting those opportunities, thats the main thing. The challenge is to develop chemistry quickly.?I dont think Ive ever played with Stammer, Getzlaf said. But much like Pears [Anaheim Ducks teammate Corey Perry], his game kind of fits into the way I play. Anytime you can put a goal scorer on my wing, Im happy. I do enjoy the passing game more than shooting, as most people know already.Stammer works hard. He gets in the corners and does the dirty work too. Its not like hes a perimeter guy. We just got to keep doing those little things, and those little plays will happen.

Authentic Drew Smyly Jersey .ca. Kerry, Just watched the shootout in the Coyotes/Leafs game and I have to ask, why was the James van Riemsdyk goal allowed to count? All of the video replays we were shown on TV were inconclusive about whether the puck had entirely crossed the line or not.

Open champion Justin Rose birdied the first hole with a blind shot he hit to a foot of the pin, and he stayed in front Tuesday until he completed a 4-under 67 for a two-shot lead over Jason Dufner in PGA Grand Slam of Golf. EL PASO, Texas -- Heavy hearts because of the death of a teammate haunt the Army Black Knights as they begin a three-game road trip trying to keep their season-opening win streak going. These are great kids, and they are remarkably resilient, coach Jeff Monken said. West Point does have a way of preparing all of its people to be able to persevere through tough times. I have no doubt that this team will persevere and prevail through this adversity.Army (2-0) meets UTEP (1-1) on Saturday night in the Sun Bowl with the sudden death of defensive back Brandon Jackson still fresh on the mind. The 20-year-old sophomore defensive back from Queens, New York, was killed in a single-car crash early last Sunday, hours after Army had defeated Rice in its home opener at Michie Stadium. When you lose somebody you love, it is tough. This is no exception, Monken said. Our guys are having a tough time and are reeling right now. This will be the first meeting between Army and UTEP, and Miners coach Sean Kugler knows it will be charged with emotion.I havent dealt with losing a player. I have dealt with a personal loss, Kugler said. Youve got to deal with it in your own way. I cant even come close to speak to how Army is going to deal with that.I know theyll rally around that guy and play their hearts out. In a situation like that, thats all you can do.The Miners, who are coming off a 41-7 loss at No. 11 Texas , will have quarterback Zack Greenlee back in the lineup. He missed the game against the Longhorns and was doubtful earlier in the week with a slight ligament tear in his left knee, a separated shoulder, and a broken finger on his throwing (right) hand. But Kugler said Thursday on his radio show that he expected Greenlee to start.A graduate transfer from Fresno State, Greenlee passed for 229 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in the Miners season-opening win over New Mexico State.Other things of note when Army travels to UTEP on Saturday night:RUN RUN RUN: Armys triple option rankks fourth in the nation in rushing with an average of 338.
Authentic Ian Happ Jersey. 5 yards. Andy Davidson leads the team with two straight 100-yard games.KEEPING UP WITH JONES: UTEP tailback Aaron Jones rushed for 249 yards on 31 carries against New Mexico State to open the season and had 123 yards on the ground and scored in last weeks loss at Texas.WHAT TURNOVERS? Plagued more often than not by turnovers, the Black Knights are in unfamiliar territory to start the season. Theyre fifth in the nation in turnover margin at a plus-2.5. Army already has four interceptions, just two less than it nabbed the entire 2015 season. The Black Knights finished 113th (-0.92) in turnover margin last year.ARMY ADVANTAGE? Army has been stationed in El Paso since the border with Mexico was established more than 160 years ago. According to the Texas State Historical Association, after the end of the Mexican War the U.S. needed to defend the new border and maintain law and order, so a military post was re-established on the Rio Grande in January 1854 when the Army rented quarters at a hacienda in El Paso. On March 8, 1854, the official name of the post became Fort Bliss, in memory of Lt. Col. William Wallace Smith Bliss, Gen. Zachary Taylors chief of staff during the Mexican War and later his son-in-law.CONFIDENT CADETS: Despite the tragic death of Jackson, if Army enters the Sun Bowl displaying a good dose of swagger, itll be understandable. Before last weeks win over Rice, the Black Knights hadnt won two straight in a 70-game span and hadnt started a season 2-0 in two decades. Were going to face a 2-0 team that is very confident right now, Kugler said. They are playing energized football. Im sure that theyre thinking they can come down here and be 3-0.---AP Sports Writer Schuyler Dixon in Dallas contributed to this report.---AP college football website:
