Oncology at Mayo Clinic is one of the largest, most comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment programs in the world. Oncologists provide care for people with cancer. Mayo Clinic oncologists collaborate with experts in all other departments to provide coordinated and integrated, multidisciplinary care to people with cancer.The advancement of natural language processing (NLP) has promoted the use of detailed textual data in electronic health records (EHRs) to support cancer research and facilitate patient care. In this review, we aim to assess EHR for cancer research and patient care by using the Minimal Common Oncology Data Elements (mCODE), which is a community-driven effort to define a minimal set of data elements for cancer research and practice.

Current Oncology is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal published online by MDPI (from Volume 28 Issue 1-2021). The journal changes publication frequency from bimonthly to monthly in 2022. Established in 1994, the journal represents a multidisciplinary medium for clinical oncologists to report and review progress in the management of this disease. The Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists (CAMO), the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology (CAPO), the Canadian Association of General Practitioners in Oncology (CAGPO), the Cell Therapy Transplant Canada (CTTC) and the Canadian Leukemia Study Group (CLSG) are affiliated with the journal and their members receive a discount on the article processing charges.
