The UV purification system disinfects water by disinfecting harmful microorganisms with UV light. These microbial contaminants include health-threatening viruses, bacteria and protozoa. The UV light emitted by the UV lamp has an optimum wavelength, typically 254 nm (UV-C). The emitted ultraviolet light penetrates the outer cell membrane of these microorganisms and destroys the DNA through the cell body. DNA is altered by absorbing UV-C radiation, which destroys internal chemical bonds and prevents reproduction. As a result, the microorganisms become sterile and cannot be replicated.
Ultraviolet light does not kill microorganisms. It inactivates them and prevents them from replicating the colonies by attacking the DNA. The DNA of these microbial contaminants is primarily used for replication purposes. The ability of these harmful active microorganisms to replicate, multiply and form colonies leads to waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery and guinea worms. However, when the disinfectant inactivates these harmful microorganisms, they can enter our system and pass without any harm.
Disinfectants can come in two forms, chemical and physical. Ultraviolet radiation is a physical disinfectant that does not alter the chemical properties of water and is beneficial for disinfection. Chemical disinfectants such as chlorine react with water to change their properties and change taste and odor.
