Public lighting accounts for 50 to 75 percent of the warehouse's electricity consumption. According to a recent measure, if all warehouses in the United States switch to more efficient public lighting equipment, they will save a total of more than $12 billion in annual electricity bills. Gaowan metal halide lamps or high-pressure sodium lamps are currently the most common form of public lighting in warehouses, but warehouses are transitioning to light emitting diodes to achieve the cost savings estimated by these recent measures.
