Vein treatment: Varicose Veins and a Gentle Cure (VNUS)

Varicose veins are the type of venous insufficiency which is caused by the malfunctioning of single-way valves that help transportation of blood to the heart. When the process is obstructed due to certain issues, the blood starts pooling inside the veins making them superficial. They may be seen in red or purple colors just below the skin surface of the leg or face.

Varicose veins may cause severe pain and discomfort if left untreated for a long time. They can lead to  DVT(Deep Vein Thrombosis) or leg ulcers.

VNUS Closure procedure:

The following procedure is categorized under minimally invasive treatment which is an alternative vein treatment option for patients suffering from venous reflux disease that eventually convert into varicose veins. Moreover, it is an outpatient procedure that means patients can resume their normal activities just after the treatment.

What is Superficial Venous Reflux?

Human legs consist of a large network of veins. Normally, leg veins comprise vein valves that open and shut to assist the process of flowing blood back to the heart. Venous reflux disease occurs when the vein valves fail to perform their normal function and blood starts storing within the veins. The faulty vein can cause the symptoms such as;

  • Swollen limbs
  • Heaviness in the legs
  • Legs cramps
  • Skin discoloration
  • Skin ulcers

If you experience any one of these symptoms, visit a certified vein center for effective vein treatment.

Highlights of the VNUS Closure procedure:

  • Alleviation of symptoms
  • Return normal activity within 24 hours
  • Outpatient Vein Treatment
  • Administration of Local or general anesthesia
  • A great cosmetic result with minimum to no scarring, bruising, or swelling

Treatment  procedure:

It is an alternative vein treatment to the conventional vein treatment option i.e vein ligation stripping.

The following vein treatment is conducted on an outpatient basis. Your vein doctor will use a closure catheter inserted directly into the diseased veins. The tiny catheter transmits RF (radio frequency) energy to the vein valves. Once the radiofrequency energy is transmitted, your vein specialist withdraws the catheter. When the heat is transmitted to the veins wall, it causes the collagen in the valve to shrink and further the vein to close. As soon as the diseased vein is closed, the blood rearranges its routes through the healthy veins.

Furthermore, your vein doctor places a bandage over the insertion site to put extra compression to aid quick healing. Your vein doctor may advise the patients to walk daily for a minimum of thirty minutes. Also, he/she may recommend avoiding standing or sitting for extended periods of time.

Is the Closure treatment covered by my insurance?

Most insurance companies that provide coverage for the VNUS Closure procedure may be half or the full. It is based on medical requirements. The following treatment includes the positive coverage policies that can cover major health issues. You can discuss your insurance coverage at the time of consultation.

Get the treatment done under the supervision of a vein specialist.
