What is the difference between the electrical current transformer and the potential transformer?

Generally speaking, the current transformer and the potential transformer are responsible for measuring whether the power systems are safe and accurate. Although the two types of electrical transformers have magnetic circuits in the primary and secondary windings for their operation, there are many differences in their application within electrical networks.
Likewise, the potential transformer also measures an aspect of the power supply, although they are responsible for the power of the load. It is important in different countries where households and industries use different types of voltages, such as 120V for household appliances and 240V for industries and businesses.
An electrical potential transformer will measure and reduce high voltage values to lower values. Although there are some places that do not use them, so they are not always installed in a distribution network or substation. However, some experts say that not using them can present a danger to those who service these meters.
Both current and power transformers ensure that metering systems and substations are working properly and that voltage and amperage remain within proper levels.
