How to Wear a Wig and Why Should You Do So

African American wigs are currently a hot item on the fashion scene.    Not only are celebrities and fashionable women donning wigs in increasing numbers, but the quality of the wigs themselves is improving all the time.    Whatever your level of experience with wigs.   .   .   or whether you already have a beautiful collection in the double digits.   .   .   we invite you to read on and be inspired.    To begin, we sat down with Kerre Berry, our fabulous Ashro hair and curly me hair stylist, to get her expert advice on how to properly wear a wig—as well as tips on how to look and feel absolutely fabulous while wearing one.

Let us take the risk of being ourselves.

Whenever our hair doesn't reflect how we feel on the inside, or when it gets in the way of our goals in life, it's time to TRANSFORM! It's possible that the fabulous YOU you've been developing all this time is finally ready to be revealed, and now is not the time to be shy about revealing yourself.    Why not try something different and open your mind to new possibilities? This may necessitate a slight modification to our standard look.   .   .   and, on occasion, it entails attempting a completely different appearance.

Because wigs are only temporary, the possibilities are virtually limitless and quite magical.    They allow us to experiment and reinvent ourselves without having to go through the trouble of drastically cutting or coloring our hair.    And that is what is referred to as OPPORTUNITY in the business world.    To be honest, wigs can save us from more than just our fashion ruts.    They can make bad hair days, lazy hair days, and even, for some strong beautiful souls who are fighting hair loss or thinning, a wig can be our beautiful crown and our glory when we need it the most, turn our bad hair days, lazy hair days, and even turn our bad hair days into good hair days.    It is important for each of us to believe that we are living our best, most beautiful version of ourselves.

The Natural Appearance

A growing number of women of color are opting for more natural black hair styles than ever before.    If you want to achieve this look without using excessive chemicals, blow drying, or hot tools, you must avoid them.

Let's figure out which wig type is best for us.

The wig is worn by an Afro-American woman with a brown straight face framing wig.

Ora Wig number one.

Wigs made of synthetic materials

Man-made materials are used to construct this type of wig.    It is generally more affordable, making it an excellent choice if you want to experiment with a new style that you aren't sure about.

WARNING: Hot styling will permanently damage the majority of synthetic wigs.    Unless specifically stated otherwise by the manufacturer, do not use curling irons, flat irons, or hot blow dryers on them at all.    Thanks to some retailers, synthetic wigs that can withstand high temperatures are now available; however, always adhere to the manufacturer's temperature recommendations.

THE GOOD NEWS is that you can cut a synthetic wig and even use hair products—but only in moderation.    Synthetic wigs, for the most part, are pre-styled and will retain their style as long as they are given the bare minimum of care.    They can even withstand the elements such as wind, rain, and humidity.

2.    Human Hair Wigs (also known as hair extensions)

This type of wig is made from real human hair, and it is very realistic.    It has a tendency to appear "real" because it is, in fact, real.    It is ideal for ladies who want a very natural look, as well as for the true wig wearer—the woman who knows exactly what she wants and is confident that she will get plenty of use out of it.

A human hair wig can be styled in the same way that your own hair can be: you can cut, color, curl, straighten, and blow dry it just like your own hair.    This makes a human hair wig an excellent choice for a woman who wants to "play with" and customize her hairstyle.    Please keep in mind that the more gentle you are with your wig, the longer it will last you.    You'll also need to condition it after washing it because it is no longer able to produce oils on its own.    Humidity and wind can also have an impact on it, just like with real hair.

Human Hair Blend Wigs are a third option.

Using a combination of human hair and synthetic fibers, this type of wig is created.    It is typically priced in the mid-range, allowing you to achieve a more realistic appearance without having to spend as much money as you would on a 100% human hair wig.

A blend has a tendency to look fantastic and last for a long time.    Generally speaking, it's a good middle of the road option.    For more information on heat and styling tolerances, consult the manufacturer's website.

If your natural hair color is the same as the color of your wig, pulling out a small amount of your own hair at the hairline will make your wig appear even more authentic.    Once you've pulled them out, you'll want to match the texture of your wig: curl those hairs if your wig is curly, straighten them if your wig is straight, etc.    Twirl and twist your own hairs into the highlight lace closure wigs to make it more dramatic if you want to go that extra mile.    The fact is that this does make a difference.    Don't be afraid to try new things.
