The Community First Services and Supports (CFSS) program was introduced in 2013 and is expected to replace the Consumer Assistance Grant program and Personal Care Assistance programs. It will provide people with disabilities more choices and support in obtaining and using services in their community. The CFSS will also expand self-directed options for services and allow individuals to purchase goods that will help them live independently. In Minnesota, CFSS is the first program to be rolled out, although many other states are considering similar changes.

In Times Square, the team works to develop relationships with homeless people and link them with mental health care, medical care, and housing. During the recent coronavirus pandemic, there was an increased number of people sleeping in Times Square. Community navigators assist with immediate needs, while linking people with longer-term services. Through this program, reliance on law enforcement and other agencies is reduced. A team of Community Navigators operates from 40th Street to 53rd Street, sixth Avenue to eight avenue, and Restaurant Row.

Individuals with disabilities can receive CFSS services from community-based providers who will also be paid by the government. Currently, the program is waiting for Federal approval before going live in Texas, and no go-live date has been set yet. Those who want to receive this assistance may click on the link above. However, keep in mind that there is a limited number of positions available. This is because Community First Services and Supports will continue to evolve.
