Common Wear and Tear in Roof Deterioration

Due to its affordability, dependability, and variety of design options, asphalt shingle roofing is a popular choice among homeowners. You won't have to worry about obtaining a new roof for up to 20 years or more if installation and upkeep are done correctly. However, roofs experience a lot of wear and tear and are frequently exposed to damaging external factors including winds, UV rays, and rain.

Decaying shingles

Shingles that are consistently exposed to too much sunshine can eventually begin to rot. Dents, granule loss, and cracks are among of the early symptoms of this problem. Even the roof can begin to leak due to deteriorated shingles. If not handled, this issue will only get worse.

If left unattended, this issue will only get worse and result in leaks and water damage within your house. If multiple shingles are deteriorating, a complete roof replacement would be advised by skilled roofers.

Tarnishing roof

In addition to warping, exposure to UV rays can cause roof discoloration. Shingle fading may not indicate that your roof is damaged, but it might detract from the curb appeal of your house. Additionally, it is one of the first indications that your shingles are beginning to distort or are nearing the end of their useful life.

Blistering

Blistering is among the most typical problems with asphalt shingles that contractors are asked to repair. This occurs when moisture that has been held inside a shingle expands, pops or breaks through the surface, leaving an exposed area. The majority of the time, blistering takes place in the hot summer months.

Blistering can result in leaks and the early breakdown of the roof system since it exposes your roof, decking, and property to the elements. Therefore, it's imperative to take care of any blistering areas as soon as possible

Curling

Curling can be seen on a shingle roof when you see the edges of the shingles rising off the surface or the corners curving upward.

A new roof can be necessary when the shingles eventually start to curl and shrink up. Curling may result from a variety of factors, such as improper shingle installation or roofing over unleveled existing shingles without tearing off the roof.

Shingles may also curl as a result of ventilation problems that have allowed moisture to build up or due to repeated rapid cooling of a roof’s high temperature.

Curling, like blistering, can result in leaks and general roof damage if neglected for an extended period of time. It's important to get your shingles fixed as soon as you see them curling, or you could consider getting a new roof.

Cracking

The aging process of shingles naturally includes cracking. A cracked shingle results from wind, roof strains, thermal expansion and contraction, and deck movement over time reducing the asphalt roof shingles lifespan. In light of this, it is most likely that the shingles on your roof are older if some surface fractures don't totally break or tear through the shingles.

Premature cracking in a modern shingle roof is what you want to watch out for. This could be an indication that something went wrong during installation; perhaps there was a manufacturing error that resulted in a contaminated product, or that the roof system doesn't have enough ventilation.

Again, you should address cracked shingles immediately because if you don't, the roof's ability to keep out water will be jeopardized.
