Ringtone, or sonnerie telephone, is the sound a cell phone makes when it receives a call. The term was originally used to refer to an electromechanical ringing, but has now become a generic term for the ringing sound produced by cell phones.

Ringtones are a popular way to customize your mobile phone. They can be set to any tone or jingle you like, and multiple times allow you to choose a ringtone for each contact.

There are several different ringtones to choose from and many people like to change them frequently. They can be fun and quirky, or they can be more serious and fun.

The most common ringtones are monophonic, which are simple melodies that can only make one sound or beep at a time. Newer cell phones support polyphonic ringtones, playing up to 16 separate tones at the same time.

Some ringtones are designed for specific situations, such as a meeting-level tone suitable for the work environment and a positive-level tone that can be heard at outdoor events. These sounds can be downloaded from the internet and are usually customized to your taste.
