With so many options, it’s hard to know where to begin. The most common fibers used in today’s fabrics are sublimation Polyester fabric and cotton. But which is better? Let’s look at the attributes of both.

The textile industry was transformed with the discovery of polyester in the 1940s. Today this versatile synthetic fabric is used in clothing, outerwear, upholstery and home décor, sails and outdoor covers. In this fabric guide, we’re going to take a closer look at polyester.

It has been nearly a century since sublimation Polyester fabric became a very important part in a number of industries and consequently our life. Its wide range of usage makes polyester almost irreplaceable in today’s world.
In 1941, British scientists J. T. Dickson and J.R. Whinfield patented polyethylene terephthalate which is also known as PET. Their research was inspired from the research by the US scientist W. Carothers. After discovering Carothers’s work which did not include the polyester coming from terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol, in 1941, Dickson and Whinfield developed the first polyester fiber ever, called Terylene. It was firstly produced by British company Imperial Chemical Industries, and secondly by US company DuPont which was called Dacron. In the 1970’s, its popularity increased extremely in the fashion sector, and it was advertised as “a miracle fiber that can be worn for 68 days straight without ironing, and still look presentable,”. less

Chemical and Sunlight Resistance
Polyester fibers are highly resistant to a number of weak and strong acids at room temperature, moderate resistance to alkalies at room temperature and really good resistance against solvents, including those that would typically harm other fabrics.

However, there are several different methods of creating polyester that will determine its softness. The fabric can range in texture from coarse (when it is textured or made with thick yarn to relatively smooth (when it is made with thin yarn).

It was invented in 1941 by British chemists and brought by DuPont to the United States. Polyester rose to prominence in the 1970s as an inexpensive material for suiting and other clothing. Polyester and polyester blends are now the most popular human-made fabrics in the world, and one of the most popular synthetic fabrics overall.
