  The double shear beam load cell is used to measure the compressive force. This type of load cell is a variant of the shear beam load cell and is generally rated for higher loads. In the double shear beam load cell, the force acts in the center of the device. This makes the double shear beam load cell less sensitive to uneven loads. The core element of the load cell is a spring element, which consists of a metal part that deforms elastically under load and recovers when no force is applied. This deformation or strain is detected by a strain gauge mounted on the metal element and converted into an electrical signal. The double shear beam load cell contains two such spring elements and is calibrated in units of grams, kilograms, or tons.
