Body

In this comparison, we look at the seat types KLM offers and compare them with those of Delta and American Airlines.

KLM Seat Selection Overview

KLM offers several seating classes in their aircraft. These offer passengers options for comfort and budget. Some of the main classes include:

  • Economy Class: This is the usual seating choice, with normal seats and basic features. Passengers can pick their seats for a fee before checking in.
  • Economy Comfort: The economy comfort class comprises of seats that have extra legroom and have preferred placement within the cabin. These seats come at an extra cost.
  • Premium Comfort: A class above Economy Comfort, it includes ample legroom and even more amenities-ideal for the longest of flights.
  • Business Class: This has the highest comfort, with seats able to lie completely flat as beds.

KLM allows Flying Blue elite members to reserve specific extra comfortable seats for free or at a discount, enhancing the experience for frequent flyers.

Delta Air Lines Seat Selection

Delta Air Lines has a number of variants of seat selection to meet the demands of different passengers:

Basic Economy: The passengers are not privileged to choose a seat prior to flying; they do so at the check-in stage. It targets economy travelers but with a few inhibitions.

Main Cabin: This regular economy class lets passengers choose their seats when they book or later without extra charges.

Comfort+: More legroom and, if required, the possibility of booking an option of priority boarding well in advance.

Premium Select: Premium Economy cabin comes with larger seats, offering better recline along with added perks. Seat selection available at booking.

Delta’s seat selection policy provides flexibility for higher fare classes, allowing passengers to choose preferred locations or upgraded amenities.

American Airlines Seat Selection

American Airlines falls into a similar category: they charge to choose a seat:

  • Basic Economy: Similar to its Delta cousin, Basic Economy passengers will be assigned a seat at check-in, or they can shell out to choose a seat early.
  • Main Cabin: This class is the normal economy class where customers are allowed to choose their seats free, save for those wanting more legroom or better seats.
  • Premium Economy: The passengers will experience increased comfort with larger seats, and free seat selection is included in the price.
  • Business Class: Priority in choosing seats wider, more comfortable, sometime transforming into flat beds depending on the length of the flight.

American Airlines still provides more reach regarding seat selection to its AAdvantage members based on their elite status.

Passenger Experience

The passenger experience can greatly differ among airlines. Many travelers have remarked that KLM Premium Comfort class feels much like Business Class sans the full lie-flat feature. It offers dedicated service, and uprated meals, and is essentially more comfortable than Delta's Premium Select5, for example.

In comparison, the Comfort+ and Premium Select cabins of Delta are more significant in their benefits but downscale in the quality of their service on many of its longer-haul flights; American Airlines Premium Economy class is similarly more comfortable yet without most of the amenities offered by KLM on Premium Comfort class.

Conclusion

Now, with different seat options available on KLM, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines, it is bloody well certain that each has goodness. It is impressive how KLM does Economy Comfort and Premium Comfort, offering great value to travelers who want comfort without a big investment in Business Class.

Delta does offer options within its classes of fare but is perhaps less comfortable in its premium economy choices than KLM. American Airlines worked to improve its premium service but still fights both KLM and Delta for the passenger experience.

It may all come down to certain routes, prices, and even your own preference based on level of comfort and service. Knowing all these differences will enable you to make easier decisions next time you fly.
