What does ACX stand for? The name doesn’t refer to any type of wood or tree, but refers to the glue and grade of wood. The A in ACX is referring to the side of the plywood that is called the “face” which is usually the preferred side. This is because it has fewer defects and knots than the other sides. It is the side that you will see when you’re using it in projects. The letter C is the side that is considered to be the back of the plywood, and you won’t see it. It has a few more cracks and knots than the “face” side. The letter x refers to the exterior adhesive that joins the two separate wood panels together.
