How does a fast track desalination unit work?

The water coming from the seas is treated in a fast track desalination unit with the use of reverse osmosis technology, thereby assuring the water supply to meet the Australian drinking water norms. Well, if you are still not sure about how the desalination method works, this article is right for you!

Steps of desalination to purify the water:

Before explaining the step by step process, know that the main function of a desalination plant is to use the seawater or brackish water to produce clear and portable water - safe for human consumption.

• Intake of sea water: At first, the sea water is in taken at full capacity through the intake tunnel. The flow rate is kept low in order to ensure that the marine life does not get drawn into the plant.

• Screening: The drum screens in the tunnel make sure that all the solid particles are dirt are kept out, and only water passes into the plant. This water is further filtered through anthracite and sand. The concentrated waste water is then moved through a high rotating centrifuge to extract the maximum amount of water, while the remaining sludge is left for disposal.

• Reverse osmosis: An efficient water treatment rental facility uses reverse osmosis to remove the presence of salt and other minerals from the water through the semi permeable membrane of the system at a high pressure.

• Post treatment: Fresh water that is produced by the reverse osmosis is further sent for quality testing to meet the standards of Australian guidelines, which is then moved to the Drinking water storage tank.

• Water supply: Water then runs from the storage tank to the water supply network through a 18 km pipeline, which is further supplied to homes and industries in the country.

Bottom line:

Treating the water appropriately is really essential to avoid health disruptions as most of the diseases we suffer from, are directly or indirectly derived from water. This desalination unit is one of the most effective ways to treat water and is of course, very energy efficient at the same time. It is basically a mechanical process to purify the water while optimizing the water costs at the same time.
