Industrial RO Water Treatment: A Deep Dive into its Importance, Operations, and Benefits

The importance of an industrial RO plant is huge. In the past few decades, this revolutionary technology has proved to be a blessing for hospitals, hotels and restaurants, industrialists, and of course, housing societies. It offers clean and purified water that can be used for consumption as well as production purposes. It smoothly removes up to 99% of dissolved impurities, contaminants, or solids from the water, therefore making it clean, pure, and safe.

What exactly is an RO plant?

As you might have guessed already, the manufacturing plant that purifies contaminated water through the procedure of reverse osmosis is an industrial RO system. Such a plant needs a variety of pre-treatment methods like dichlorination, softening, and anti-scalant treatment. A high level of pressure is used to send water through a semipermeable membrane which stops all the contaminants from the water and passes only pure water through, once the pre-treatment procedure is over. Energy levels are determined, based upon the concentration of contaminants and salts in the water.

Do you know that on average an industrial RO plant needs 6 KW hours of electricity to purify 1 cubic meter of water?

Importance of RO water plant

It helps to purify contaminated water which can then be used for different purposes like the reclamation of dissolved minerals, concentration of contaminants, wastewater treatment, desalination, and drinking water.

Understanding the process of the RO system

There are 2 compartments in the RO water plant— a) contains high concentration water, and b) contains low concentration water. Both these compartments are separated with the help of a semipermeable membrane. The water moves into the low-concentration compartment via the semipermeable membrane when a high level of pressure is applied to the high-concentration water compartment. The water that is finally collected is known as RO water.

Are there any benefits to industrial RO plant?

1. The RO process is reliable

2. Removes non-ionic, ionic salts, colloidal matter, active, and inactive bacteria, viruses, and high molecular weight organic matter

3. The water retrieved is safe to drink
