Useful general guide to properly install Plastic Rotameter

  Steps to install Plastic Rotameter

Plastic Rotameter, also known as variable area flow meter, is a device used to measure the flow rate of liquid or gas in a closed pipe. It measures the flow rate by allowing the cross-sectional area through which the fluid flows to change to produce a measurable effect. They are a cost-effective flow measurement device that provides excellent repeatability, does not require an external power source, can be made of a variety of materials, and can be designed for high-pressure and high-temperature applications.

The following is a useful general guide to properly install Plastic Rotameter:

  1. Check whether the instrument is damaged during transportation. Immediately report any damage to the container to the freight carrier.

  2. Make sure that your pressure, temperature, fluid, and other requirements are compatible with the gauges and components (including O-rings).

  3. Choose a suitable installation position to prevent the instrument from being subjected to excessive pressure. This may be due to:

  Misplaced pipe.

The weight of the relevant pipe.

"Water hammer" is most likely to occur when the flow suddenly stops, such as when a solenoid valve is quickly closed. (If necessary, a plenum should be installed. This is also useful in pressure start situations.)

Stagnation or thermal expansion of the liquid in the valve isolation system.

Instantaneous pressurization will put pressure on the instrument and may cause pipeline failure. Note: In a closed heat transfer or cooling system, install the meter on the cold end of the pipeline to minimize the expansion and contraction of the meter and possible fluid leakage at the threaded connection.

  4. Please operate the meter carefully during installation.

Before making the connection, use an appropriate amount of Teflon tape on the outer pipe threads. Do not use paste or rod-shaped thread sealing products.

Over-tightening the plastic connection may cause damage to the accessory.

  5. Install the meter vertically with the entrance at the bottom.

  6. As long as the significant vibration or stress caused by the misalignment of the pipeline is not an influencing factor, the instrument with stainless steel joints will support a few feet of pipeline.

  7. The meter with plastic fittings must be installed so that the fittings will not support any part of the relevant pipeline. In addition, the instrument rack should be fixed on the bulkhead, panel, or column.

  8. Appropriate valves should be installed at the entrance and exit of the meter used for gas service. The distance from these valves to the instrument port should not exceed 1-1/2 of the pipe diameter. The valve at the outlet should be used to generate back pressure as needed to prevent the float from rebounding. It should be set initially and then placed separately. The inlet valve should be used for throttling purposes. Depending on the installation, valves may not be necessary, but they are most useful in many installations. Remember: To obtain correct flow readings in gas service, it is necessary to know the pressure at the meter outlet (before the valve).

  9. Never exceed the maximum pressure and temperature.
