How to Prepare for the All-on-4® Procedure

Posted By nextsmiles nextsmiles     November 9, 2021

Body

You are done with your consultation, and your dentist has evaluated your oral hygiene, medical history, conditions and current medication. They have also taken an x-ray and scan to assess your bone structure, and you qualify as a suitable candidate for the All-on-4® with dental implant surgery.

During the evaluation, you will be asked several questions that you are required to answer honestly. For example, the dentist will ask you if you are a smoker, what food you eat regularly and how often you brush and floss your teeth.

The question is, how do you prepare for the procedure?

Before the Procedure

  • Do not eat or drink for 24 hours before the procedure.
  • Arrange for someone to pick you up after the All-on-4® Don't drive yourself.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Adopt a healthier diet.
  • Consult your dentist about what you should know about anaesthesia.

These are the immediate things to do for the procedure. However, there are other things that you should consider related to after the procedure is complete, such as:

  1. How will the prosthetic teeth feel

Remember, All-on-4® dental implants are a little different from your natural teeth. They will feel foreign to your mouth. During the preparation, you should consider how they might feel and look. You don't want to look into the mirror after surgery and be surprised.

  1. Post-surgery days

Plan how you will spend your post-surgery days and what you will need. You need rest during the first few days; hence, going to the grocery store is not advisable. Instead, ensure you shop for a few days. Stock the necessary soft foods you need.

  1. Speech

You might have difficulties pronouncing names and sounds in the immediate post-surgery days. Prepare for this.

  1. Practise smiling

You might not have smiled for long due to missing teeth. However, after placement, your smile will be brighter. Therefore, before going for the procedure, practise the smile on the mirror.

It is essential to prepare thoroughly before the All-on-4®procedure. Ensure everything is in order before and after the surgery.
