How to Keep Your Baby Warm at Night

Posted By Emily Clarke     November 20, 2021

Body

When the temperature drops at night, keeping your baby warm and cozy should be a top priority. Youngsters have a hard time regulating their body temperature, making them vulnerable to colds and the flu.

Luckily, there are many ways to keep them warm through even the harshest winter cold. Here are some of our favorite tips.

Control the Ambient Temperature

The easiest thing you can do is adjust the room temperature. Most experts agree that setting your thermostat between 68 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 22 degrees Celsius) is ideal.

Prepare the room early and check the ambient temperature with a thermometer to get things just right.

Use a Firm Mattress

Most new parents automatically assume that a plush mattress is best for their young baby. That's not the case.

Softer sleeping surfaces are a smothering hazard. Plus, they get cold very quickly. To keep your tot safe and warm, use a firm mattress with a clean waterproof liner. Firm units have better insulation. As a result, they stay warm and prevent cool air from getting in.

Provide the Right Clothing

Comfortable clothing can make a world of difference. Dress your baby up in cozy infant footie pajamas. Tight-fitting clothes are always ideal. Steer clear of thick wools and insulating fabrics. It's best to go with multiple thin layers that you can easily remove and adjust. If you need to buy infant footie pajamas, visit this website.

Keep Them Covered

Finally, don't forget to give your youngster plenty of insulating coverage. Babies lose body heat from their heads, hands, and feet. Along with a pair of infant footie pajamas, dress your baby with a soft cap and mittens.

Alternatively, you can wrap them in a thick swaddling blanket. The swaddle mimics the womb and is much safer than a loose blanket.

Preparing for a Warm Night

If you find yourself shivering once the sun goes down, your baby is feeling the effects of the cold, too! Use these tips to ensure that your bundle of love is warm. Keep an eye on them throughout the night and take steps to create the coziest environment you can.
