Depending on the manufacturer's choice, the ends or points can be rounded (oval), cut, flat or sawed and chamfered. When rounded, the stud should have an oval tip with a radius approximately equal to one time the base diameter of the stud. When flat and chamfered, the ends shall be chamfered from a diameter never exceeding the minor diameter of the thread to produce a chamfer approximately equal to 2 times the pitch or the length of an incomplete thread.
length
Stud lengths are usually measured end-to-end or first come first. The length of a stud, measured parallel to the axis, is the distance from the first thread to the first thread.
The first thread is defined as the intersection of the major diameter of the thread and the bottom of the point. Studs are usually supplied in 1/4" long increments.
