Safely transport your equipment

Most damage to a paddle board occurs during shipping and storage, so knowing the best way to transport a paddle board is key to extending its lifespan. One thing to keep in mind when carrying a SUP is to always be aware of your surroundings. Paddles are usually between 10'-14' in length and have plenty of room around you to hit something!

Lifting Your Board
Since most SUPs will have a handle in the center of the board, to lift it, just prop your board on its rails, hold the handle firmly, then lift, tuck it under your arm . Now you have one hand free to carry the paddle. If you are concerned about scratching the board while on the rails, consider using rail tape. It won't affect the performance of the board, but will add a little extra protection against rock or cement.

Load your SUP into the vehicle
To load the paddle onto the vehicle, you need to lift it overhead to reach the roof. Try to find a soft, grassy spot and put your tail down so that the deck of the plank faces you. Grab the rail, move your hands up, and step under the board until you're about halfway between the nose and tail. Holding the rails firmly, lift the board up, making sure the weight is evenly distributed so that the nose and tail don't fall off. Loading your board will vary depending on the type of roof mount you are using. There are many different options, from direct attachment to crossbars, roof rack mounts, and even J-shaped racks that allow the plank to stand upright for use alongside bikes, roof racks and other accessories. Remember that when loading the SUP, the tail of the board should be at the front of the car, and the deck of the SUP should be facing down when lying on top of the crossbar or level frame. Always secure your board with appropriate straps and locks when needed.
