Body

Small items that, when identified and placed in a character's inventory, provide a steady, passive benefit to the player character. Grand charms can give a +1 to entire skill trees and can increase things such as resistance, hit points, hit recovery time, damage, accuracy, magic find, and magic find accuracy.  Charms are either magical or one-of-a-kind.  There are no rare, set, or D2R ladder items to be found in this game.

Each of the three sizes of charm has its own set of advantages and disadvantages, which are discussed in greater detail below.

See the Charms Guide for much more in-depth strategic discussions of the advantages and disadvantages of each type of charm prefix and suffix, as well as charm hunting tips and other useful information.

Charms for the Diablo 4 Release Date

Diablo 2 Has Been ResurrectedSmall items that, when identified and placed in a character's inventory, provide a steady, passive benefit to the player character.  Grand charms can give a +1 to entire skill trees and can increase things such as resistance, hit points, hit recovery time, damage, accuracy, magic find, and magic find accuracy.  Charms are either magical or one-of-a-kind.  There are no rare, set, or crafted charms to be found in this game.

The amount of inventory space a player devotes to their charms is determined by their objectives. PVPers completely fill their inventories with charms because they want to take advantage of every bonus and aren't interested in picking up any loot. Magic finders use a large number of charms, but they must save some space in order to retrieve their discoveries. In most cases, players leveling up use the good charms they find and replace them as their characters grow in strength and level.

Charms of a Small Size

Small charms take up only 11 inventory slots, and because of their small size, they are extremely useful for making up for equipment deficiencies in a character's arsenal. Small charms are an excellent way to boost your character's hit points, resistance (particularly to specific elements), and damage/attack rating. Finding two small charms with better mods is generally easier than finding one large charm, and three small charms will almost always outperform a single grand charm. However, there are some mods that can spawn on larger charms that cannot spawn on smaller charms, such as +1 to a skill tree on grands, that cannot spawn on smaller charms. Small charms can add more magic find per inventory space than large or grand charms, and vice versa.

The Size of the Charm Is Important

Even though it appears to be counterintuitive, Small Charms are frequently far more valuable than Large or Grand Charms. Small Charms take up a lot less inventory space than large Charms, but they usually have a lot more power for their size. They also perform better at higher levels of difficulty. When it comes to scaling, while Grand Charms typically don't get much better beyond iLvl 50, Small Charms get some of their most powerful scaling when it comes to levels above that.

In most cases, Small Charms also require higher iLvls in order to reap benefits on a par with their larger counterparts. In order of importance, Grand Charms receive the properties with the lowest iLvls, followed by Large, and finally Small.

The Magic Find area, for example, is a place where players tend to accumulate a large number of Charms. The property +X-X% of Finding Magic Items is only found as a prefix on Grand or Large Charms and as a suffix on Small Charms. It does not appear as a suffix on Small Charms. In this case, the values represent a range of possible values. It's important to note how the item and requirement iLvls have changed:

Lucky Grand Charm: +1-4% (iLvl 21+), +4-7% (iLvl 38+), +8-12% (55+) for those with a high level of intelligence.

Lucky Large Charm: +1% (iLvl 34+), +2-3% (iLvl 53+), +4-6% (iLvl 51+) for those who have reached that level.

(iLvl 31+) A small charm of fortune can increase your chances of success by 3-5%.

+6-7% (iLvl 47+) when wearing a small charm of good luck.

It may appear that the Lucky Grand Charm, at its highest level (8-12%), is the best of the bunch, but if you have the necessary iLevels, you can easily get a better overall percentage chance of finding magic items by using two Small Charms. The best of the three Grand Charm rolls could yield a percentage between 8 and 12%, which is higher than the maximum percentage that the one Small Charm of Good Luck roll could yield.

Even two Small Charms with Magic Find, on the other hand, can easily outperform the best Grand Charm, which only requires two inventory slots instead of three. You can also fit three Small Charms of Good Luck into the same space as one Lucky Grand Charm, resulting in a total of 18-21% more Magic Find than you would get from eight to twelve Lucky Grand Charms. This particular scenario makes large charms a moot point. Use them if you have them, but using Large Charms for Magic Find is not recommended in most cases due to the math and inventory space requirements.

In other words, don't make the mistake of assuming that the larger Charm will have greater qualities. Sometimes a combination of Small Charms with similar properties will yield the best results. It is not always the case that you will have three Small Charms that are superior to one Grand Charm, but you must consider your options when deciding which ones to carry at any given point in time.
