Is PDR Used For Hail Repair?

Hail damage affects millions of auto each year. Whether you’re in the South or midwest, hail is almost always a seasonal issue. From tiny ice droplets to those the size of golf balls and beyond, one thing is for sure they have the ability to do massive damage and costly damage at that.

When dents happen, what method of removal can you expect? Long ago, there were only two methods to eliminate the signs of dents and dings. The first is to replace the panels altogether, and the other was to fill the dimple with something that looked like putty, usually referred to as Bondo. But is this the best remedy for getting rid of dents?

The problem with using filler for hail repair can be more temporary results along with the cost. Filler can become loose over time or susceptible to loosening, such as with accidents. When using filler, a technician will need to repaint the area. Part of the preparation for filler is sanding the vehicle’s surface for better adhesion.

Not only is filler more elaborate and requires paint, but it also takes more time to complete. This will ultimately translate to a higher bill. Although it may have these downsides, filling a dent works for any situation, no matter how big or small. In many ways, some dents are hard to reach or on a surface that isn’t completely flat, a talented technician can remold the area with the filler.

What Is Paintless Dent Repair

When you see dents on cars, where the paint is still intact, it’s just a dimple, paintless dent repair that works exceptionally well in these situations. The technician and specialized tools work in unison to pop the dent out instead of having high material costs. What many technicians like about this method is that it can be done anywhere and requires far less work than that of filling, sanding, painting, and buffing.

How Long Does PDR Take

If you do not want to wait days or even a week or more for repairs, the good news is paintless dent repair only takes a few hours to complete. Depending on the number of dimples that need to be pulled, the total time can be under a few hours. To get an accurate quote on price and time it will take, consult with your automotive body repair shop. Each case will vary, depending on how the dent is repaired, how many dents are present, and if the shop is overbooked.
