Amsterdam attracts visitors from all over the world for a good reason. It's home to some of the world's most exceptional museums and galleries, beautiful canals and architecture, great public transportation systems, many shops and eateries, and vibrant nightlife scenes - not to mention its 516 days of rain per year.

For those lucky enough to have been planning their trip for a while now (or have just discovered Amsterdam), these reviews will help you navigate Amsterdam attractions that are worth your time.

Let's start with the Top 10 Amsterdam attractions. I'll go through the time periods you're planning to visit, and finally, I'll list some fun attractions for children.

It's hard to narrow the number of must-see Amsterdam attractions to just ten, but here's a solid list of what you shouldn't miss if you're lucky enough to visit this lovely city!

1. Van Gogh Museum

Tucked away in a central location, You must book your Van Gogh Museum Tickets in advance. The museum contains approximately 750 paintings and several pieces of art that were his personal belongings.

2. Anne Frank House

The house where Anne Frank and her family were holed-up during World War II can now be toured by visitors interested in learning the story behind their short lives.

3. Anne Frank Museum

The museum is in a house owned by the Anne Frank Foundation and contains artifacts that belonged to Anne Frank. The museum also documents the history of the time period before and during World War II.

4. Rembrandt House Museum

Any art lover should visit this museum once, and it's worth checking out just for the sheer size of the collection. The museum is located in the Old Churchyard and contains over 250 paintings, most of which are his artistic masterpieces.

5. Rijksmuseum

Aside from being one of the most famous museums in Amsterdam, this museum also houses several paintings and drawings by Rembrandt. It's a good idea to start your Rijksmuseum Tour here since it's the largest of Amsterdam attractions.

6. Van Gogh Museum

Vincent van Gogh was a painter and had an exciting life that included many misfortunes. The museum is another must-see attraction that contains many paintings that he created when he was alive.

7. Amsterdam Canal Tour

A canal tour of Amsterdam is a top attraction for any visitor, and it's a fun way to see the city by boat. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and allows you to view the city from different angles and learn about architecture and history. Several companies run canal tours, but I enjoyed the one Canal Bike offered (www.canal.nl).

8. Amsterdam History Museum

The museum focuses on the history of Amsterdam and includes a ship sunk under the Amstel River. That ship was one of many wrecks in the area and was once a city symbol. The museum is inside the old warehouse that stores goods from all over Europe.

9. Red Light District

The Red Light District is a walk worth taking for all visitors, so bring a camera! From the station in Amsterdam, take the walking tour through the area, and see where prostitution has been legal since 1811. There are several dealers of sex toys on this walk as well.

10. Vondelpark (Amsterdam's Central Park)

Vondelpark is a great place to relax, exercise, and enjoy nature. It's located near the center of Amsterdam and is also home to the National Museum.

These are my top 10 Amsterdam attractions and should give you a good idea of what to see and do in this beautiful city. There are other Amsterdam attractions that I didn't list, but these were the ones that stood out to me and made me happy that I visited.
